DUBLIN, Ireland: Thousands took to the streets of Dublin on Saturday to protest increases in the cost of living.
Protesters met in Parnell Square, after which they marched down O'Connell Street, circled College Green, and ended in Merrion Square, where speeches were held.
The protest was organized by the Cost of Living Coalition, which is made up of groups, including workers and students unions, as well as opposition parties Sinn Fein, People Before Profit, and the Social Democrats.
Meanwhile, the Gardai enforced rolling street closures in Dublin's city center to ensure the march concluded as quickly as possible.
Earlier, Tanaiste Leo Varadkar said he understood why people had taken to the streets, as incomes erode due to inflation.
He also said the government would enact a "very significant" intervention, to be outlined in this week's release of the Budget.
He further said the aid would reach the Irish within weeks.
He also predicted that aid would continue throughout 2023.
