Taipei, Taiwan (Merxwire) - The Dumbo Scholarship program of the China Development Foundation is now open for applications for junior high and elementary school students in Taiwan with special talents in sports, dance, arts, music, or other areas of expertise, but lack the financial means to follow their dreams. The program also accepts recommendations from schoolteachers and social workers. The shortlisted applicants will be awarded a grant of NT$120,000 and NT$200,000 as an individual and as a group respectively.
Angelo Koo, Chairman of CDIB Capital Group who also leads the Foundation, deeply believes that "education is the most valuable investment" and that only education and knowledge can help children with insufficient resources to escape poverty. The Dumbo Scholarship Elephant program aims to support disadvantaged but gifted school children in Taiwan to develop their interests and unlock their potential. It now calls on teachers and social workers to discover aspiring young students by submitting applications to the program.
Huang Zheng-min, a young tennis player from Changhua County, is currently enrolled at Taipei's Zhishan Junior High School. He joined the Dumbo Scholarship program in 2019 on the recommendation of his teacher. Huang made enormous process in just one year and triumphed the 7th place in the national 14U group.
His coach Wu Rong-hong said that "corporate sponsorships provide an environment for gifted tennis players like Zheng-min to focus on training and exhibit confidence on-court without concern for anything else. We are looking forward to his growth and advancement." Huang's mother said, "The Flying Elephant program has not only provided financial aid to our family, but also extended acknowledgment to his hard work."
The scholarship program is a long-running program that helps talented junior high and elementary school students who lack financial resources in realizing their dreams. The program has sponsored over 100 applicants, granting up to NT$120,000 to each winning individual applicant and up to NT$200,000 to each winning team.
